Tea Table

Commission, TaBLE

Less is more with this contemporary spin on tradition. This hall table stands proudly on four tall, sleek, cabriole legs, with a fun burst of colour.

Design

This table is a traditional design using the cabriole legs and ‘pie crust’ moulding. We used Cherry timber which has a nice warm tone to it and introduced a vibrant yellow laminate for the top. The colour is great for a darker area of the home. A blend of tradition and modern colours.

Shape and Form

This was a joy to make, especially the cabriole legs. The fluid sleek design of the legs was achieved by cutting them out on the band saw using the traditional method, and hand finished with a sharp cabinet scrape. Cherry is soft to work with and looks great when polished bringing warmth to the grain.

Mustard coloured laminate is the contemporary twist on this traditional design. I chose the laminate for its hardwearing properties and ease of cleaning.

Materials

Selecting the right material for a Howard Butler piece is an essential part of developing it’s character. Knowing not only how it will look aesthetically today but how it will age and strengthen over time. Each HB creation also comes with a guide on how to keep it fresh and last a lifetime.

“The ‘pie crust ‘ detail on the apron rail adds so much to the overall design, especially where it meets the legs creating the added style in construction.”

“Perfection is all in the execution”
